Lent is the period of 40 days that precedes the celebration of Easter (less the Sundays).
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday continuing until Holy Thursday just before Easter, disciples of Christ seize the opportunity to abstain, fast and/or do other good works during this time all the way until Easter Sunday.
In Lent, disciples of Christ also see it as a time to rededicate themselves or renew their commitment to Christ.
